At the August 8, 2013 Board meeting, the MCHF approved 9 projects totalling $23,975. The approved projects contribute to the Department of Conservation’s priorities and are closely tied to: 1) capital improvement projects; 2) forest, fish and wildlife restoration efforts; 3) land acquisition or 4) hunter recruitment and outreach.
This funding is made possible through private donations to MCHF and revenue from MCHF Conservation License Plate donations:
Missouri Girls Discovering Nature (Southwest Region): $2,500. The Missouri Girls Exploring Nature is a three day camp hosted by conservation agents in the Northeast Region. The camp is offered to young ladies between the ages of 11 and 15. The camp teaches a variety of outdoor skills including canoeing, hunter education, hiking, fishing and camping. Up to 40 young girls attend the 3 day course.
Missouri Girls Discovering Nature Camp (Northeast Missouri): $2,500. The Missouri Girls Exploring Nature is a three day camp hosted by conservation agents in the Northeast Region. The camp is offered to young ladies between the ages of 11 and 15. The camp teaches a variety of outdoor skills including canoeing, hunter education, hiking, fishing and camping. Approximately 40 young girls attend the 3 day course.
Missouri Girls Discovering Nature Camp (St. Louis Area): $1,500. The Missouri Girls Exploring Nature is a three day camp hosted by conservation agents in the Saint Louis Region. The camp is offered to young ladies between the ages of 11 and 15. The camp teaches a variety of outdoor skills including canoeing, hunter education, hiking, fishing and camping. Approximately 40 young girls attend the 3 day course.
Missouri Girls Discovering Nature Camp (Ozark Region): $2,000.The Missouri Girls Exploring Nature is a three day camp hosted by conservation agents in the Ozark Region. The camp is offered to young ladies between the ages of 11 and 15. The camp teaches a variety of outdoor skills including canoeing, hunter education, hiking, fishing and camping. Approximately 50 young girls attend the 3 day course.
Missouri & Kansas Wounded Warriors in Action Ducks and Bucks Hunt: $1,975. To assist with a four day waterfowl and deer hunt for 10 veterans participating in the Wounded Warriors Project hunt in the St. Joseph area.
Stilwell Prairie Restoration: $5,000 For shrub and tree removal and invasive plant control on Stilwell Prairie.
Missouri River Bird Observatory Hi-Lonesome Prairie Project: $3,000. To assist with grassland bird monitoring efforts on Hi-Lonesome Prairie Conservation Area and surrounding grasslands.
Ozark Chinquapin Foundation Restoration Project: $3,000. To help with activities related to restoring Ozark chinquapin to Missouri oak hickory forests in southern Missouri.
Gasconade County Outdoor Classroom: $2,500. To partially cover costs related to the construction of an outdoor classroom and hiking trail at the Gasconade County R-II School District (Owensville).
