Camp Si Colburn, in Monroe County, buzzed with energy July 12-14 as 56 young ladies, ages 11-15, attended the 9th annual Missouri Girls Exploring Nature Camp. Adventurous hands-on learning ensued with target shooting, archery, firearms safety, fishing, canoeing, and of course outdoor culinary skills (s’mores)! Toward the end of camp, all of the girls successfully completed their hunter education exam.
Eleven adult chaperones joined in the fun and learning along with the lead Missouri Department of Conservation Agents – Marsha Jones, Chris Decoske, Dave McCorkell and Kevin Lockard.
Girls Camp has grown each year and was a huge success according to both participants and leaders. One participant wrote, “We learned about guns, how to canoe, and how to filet a fish.”
Seems like the basics of life.
MCHF is proud to support the Girls Camp experience. Printed on the bottom of Cabin Three’s thank you letter, next to colorful signatures, were these words:
“There is no WIFI in the forest, but I promise you will find a better connection!”
