MCHF is working with donors to acquire several Trackchairs to enhance opportunities for participants in Missouri Department of Conservation (Department) programs and special hunting and fishing events who are dealing with mobility impairment.
A Trackchair, manufactured by Offroad Trackchairs, LLC, uses tracks, rather than wheels, to provide improved traction and enhanced access to hunting and fishing locations, including hunting blinds, shooting ranges and fishing access sites.
The Department’s Director, Bob Ziehmer, recently attended a meeting that included representatives of the North Carolina Sportsman’s Caucus, led by Mr. Scott Griffin.
At that meeting, businesses and individuals pledged funds to purchase up to ten Trackchairs and donate the chairs to MCHF for use by the Department in honor of John L. Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops and Tracker Marine. MCHF has now received funds to purchase nine chairs. To date, donors include BuckBomb (Rick Schmidt), the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, RCR Race Operations (Ty Dillon), Pheasants/Quail Forever, the National Rifle Association (NRA) and Quality Deer Management Association.
The first four chairs have been delivered to the Andy Dalton Shooting Range near Springfield. Department Outreach and Education Division and Protection Division personnel are currently developing guidelines for the use of the chairs. Initial plans call for use at events involving mobility impaired hunters and anglers, including Wounded Warriors and other disabled veterans. More detail will be provided as guidelines are finalized and once the chairs have been delivered and placed in operation.
