MO Girls Discover Nature Junior Camp – Ozark Region 2015

This camp was held at Slabtown Campground in Texas County alongside the Big Piney River. It was held July 18-19, 2015.

The Discover Nature Girls Junior Camp is a two-day introduction to the outdoors. This camp will be the first stage in the Discover Nature Girls Camp program. With completion of the junior camp, the girls will be ready to attend Discover Nature Girls Camp as already being exposed to many of the activities provided them. The goal of the camp is to introduce a variety of outdoor skills to young ladies between the ages of 7-11. At the completion of the junior camp, the girls will have confidence to tackle the outdoors and enjoy new outdoor experiences and activities.

Some activities and skills they will participate in are:

Day One: canoeing, river cleanup, water safety, swift water rescue, fish casting, lure tying, fish id and fish cleaning, plus evening activities such as swimming, archery, firearms and firearms safety, tent building, campfire safety and outdoor cooking. Day Two: they venture on a hiking trail and pass through learning stations such as hiking safety techniques, wilderness survival, wildlife identification, GPS, map and compass reading, shooting positions, game care and trapping. They walk through a shoot-don’t-shoot safety trail set up for them to experience what a real hunt would entail, what to look for and how to ask permission.
