These project funds will assist with travel costs associated with going to remote sites to collect pollen from trees in Mississippi, Texas, Alabama and northern Louisiana. It also covers expenses associated with finding existing healthy trees, pollination work, collecting seeds, and planting and maintaining the large numbers of trees necessary to get the best resistant to blight. Funds will not only assist with pollen and seed collection from tall trees, but will help to purchase grow tubes and fencing to keep rodents and other herbivors from eating the nuts and seedlings, summer help to plant and care for trees, education and outreach program equipment and various other costs.
