We’ve had an exciting and busy year full of administering and sponsoring projects that advance our common goal of protecting our state’s natural gifts and exposing more people to its natural beauty.
Here are some examples:
- Green City Coalition Neighborhood Green Space Program connects St. Louis residents to nature through the strategic conversion of underutilized land into new community green spaces.
- Missourians for Monarchs continues the implementation of creating monarch and pollinator habitat, plus increasing the availability of native milkweed seeds and nectaring plant seeds for subsequent habitat projects.
- Discover Nature Girls Camps introduces girls ages 11-15 to different outdoor skills, including Hunter Education Certification, and allows them to leave camp with the confidence to explore Missouri’s diverse nature on their own.
- Glenn D. Chambers Family Scholarship Endowment supports Missouri college students preparing for a career in conservation.
- Chariton Hills Conservation Bank is the first conservation bank in Missouri setting aside land to permanently protect threatened or endangered species and their habitat, which in the case of our current holdings is the Indiana bat and northern long-eared bat.
- Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program (MoNASP) State Tournament has grown to the second largest state archery event in the U.S. Archery teaches focus, self-control, discipline, patience and life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life.
- Migratory bird research reached new heights this year when we funded a workshop in Honduras, which trained biologists how to climb in the canopy of trees, allowing them to expand the types of conservation research they can perform.
- Stream Teams continue to clean up and provide education about our streams, and we support their efforts by helping purchase trash bags and donating to Paddle MO, a 100-mile, 5-day educational journey on the last 100 miles of the Missouri River.
- Feral hog eradication efforts are helping remove this serious threat to fish, forests and wildlife, as well as agricultural resources.
