“Conservation is a way of life:” Meet Maygan Huff and learn why she supports MCHF

Meet Open Outdoor 3D Archery Tournament Presenting Sponsor Maygan Huff & Associates LLC with American Family Insurance

(MISSOURI, July 7, 2026) – The Open Outdoor 3D Archery Tournament takes place on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Mark Twain Lake Archery Park in the Frank Russell Recreation Area. The partners MCHF, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), the Mark Twain Lake Army Corp of Engineers and the Mark Twain Lake FOREST Council invite archers of all ages and shooting levels to attend the tournament and compete for medals and cash prizes. Proceeds raised support youth and outdoor conservation programs across Missouri.

Get to know the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation’s (MCHF) generous presenting sponsor (and their newest Corporate Sponsor) for the 2026 Open Outdoor 3D Archery Tournament: Maygan Huff & Associates LLC with American Family Insurance! As a born-and-raised outdoorswoman, sponsoring the annual Open Outdoor 3D Archery Tournament is one way Maygan encourages others to make memories out in nature, just as her family did for her.

Conservation isn’t just a word to Maygan, it’s a way of life – one her grandparents instilled in her from day one. A self-professed small-town girl, she grew up on a family farm in New London, Missouri, population 990. “I grew up with a pet cow in the pasture, Daisy, muddy boots by the door, and weekends spent gardening with my grandparents,” Maygan said. “Donating to MCHF feels personal to me because the outdoors helped shape me and gave me so many memories with my grandparents.”

One such memory was sneaking behind the grain bin to scare cattle. “As a little kid, I thought it was hilarious,” she said. But she learned many practical lessons by hunting and fishing alongside her grandpa, stocking their pond with fish, and going to deer camp. Every year, her family hosted a cookout where local hunters and conservation agents swapped stories and shared a meal. “These times brought our family together year after year,” Maygan said.

When she inherited her uncle’s American Family Insurance business, she quickly found that being an insurance broker in New London meant being trusted with her neighbors’ livelihoods. When clients come in, they aren’t strangers – they’ve seen her grow up. They ask after her mom. They have a relationship with the land, just like her. Through MCHF, she’s found a way to give back to her community, local wildlife, and the environment all at once. Maygan’s biggest conservation priority right now is species restoration; a sentiment she says is shared by many in her community.

On nice days, you can find Maygan walking her dogs Hershey and Willy, enjoying the fresh air. If it’s hot, she’ll be out on the lake or the river. On her desk sits a framed photo of her grandparents on the family farm – it’s the first thing visitors see when they walk into her office, serving as a tribute to the people and place that built her. The Open Outdoor 3D Archery Tournament is a beautiful way for Maygan to share the same joy of the outdoors that her grandparents once gifted her. Maygan, Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation thanks you for your support of the Open Outdoor 3D Archery Tournament and for becoming a corporate sponsor of MCHF! About Missouri Department of Conservation (MCHF)

In 1937, citizen-led efforts created the Missouri Department of Conservation to restore, conserve and regulate Missouri’s over-stressed fisheries, forests and wildlife populations. During our first 40 years, hunting, fishing, and trapping permits provided most of MDC’s funding, but in 1976 an expanded program, the “Design for Conservation,” was passed to set aside one-eighth of one percent sales tax directly to the agency. That consistent funding, plus a strong, non-political structure and very supportive public helped make Missouri a national leader in conservation. Today we continue our legacy of protecting our state’s wild resources and helping Missourians connect with their natural heritage. Our goal is to sustain diverse, healthy plant and animal communities – well into the future.

About Mark Twain Lake FOREST Council

The Mark Twain Lake Friends of Recreation and Environmental Stewardship Council , regionally known as the FOREST Council, encompasses sixteen different community organizations and public land management agencies that share a common value of responsible stewardship and quality outdoor experiences. This group has been an essential component to the recent successes realized at Mark Twain Lake, such as the Northeast Missouri Environmental Stewardship Demonstration Area, the Frank Russell Pond Shelterhouse, and the Joanna Multi-Purpose Trail Waterborne Restrooms, and the Frank Russell Equestrian Campground.

About St. Louis District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Mark Twain Lake is primarily managed by the St. Louis District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The St. Louis District, which encompasses 28,000 square miles and is almost equally divided between Missouri and Illinois, is an engineering and water resource agency dedicated to maintaining a proper and healthy balance of the varying uses of the heartland’s waterways. It supports the needs of the community and the environment through many civil works missions. The St. Louis District also operates and maintains five lakes and their associated recreational areas. These lakes, which serve a variety of purposes ranging from flood protection and recreation to potable water supply and hydroelectricity, average over 15 million visitors a year.
